Andrea began her riding career in Kelowna BC at the age of ten. She showed as a Junior in BC before moving to Oregon to train with Joan Curtain and Brad Laird in 1978. Her successful Junior career focused on competing in the Junior hunters and Medal Classes.
After graduating from high school in Oregon, she moved back to BC to work and train at Thunderbird Equestrian Center, riding with Michael Patrick. A career move then found Andrea in Washington State where she trained with John Turner and Jack Hammond at Thumbs Up Farm. With John, Andrea rode to many wins on her jumper Solid Citizen, including many championships in Arizona, Indio and Spruce Meadows. After many great years with Thumbs Up Farm, a locale change meant a change in trainers to Tami Masters and Jennifer Hansen. Andrea competed her Grand Prix mare, Du Soleil, to many AO Jumper championships and Grand Prix ribbons. Their partnership culminated in successful showing in the International ring at Spruce Meadows in the Open division and the Parcours de Chasse.
In 1994, Andrea’s show management career was born with the inception of the Octoberfest Hunter Jumper Show held in the infield at Donida Farm. Octoberfest has been a staple in the NW since then. It’s friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere provide a fun opportunity for riders to experience a professionally run, multi-day show. In 2008, the A rated Washington Emerald Classic was added to Andrea’s show resume and has since grown into a fixture on the summer schedule of many top Northwest trainers.
Andrea’s show management career expanded in 2012 to include the A rated Swiftwater Invitational and the Alpine Preview, held at the new Washington State Horse Park in Cle Elum. She intends to continue her philosophy of great shows with a professional edge and friendly atmosphere.
Along with her husband and two sons, Andrea currently resides at her small farm in Renton, Washington. She's been a paramedic with the Tacoma Fire Department since 1988, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant/Paramedic in 2005. She continues to show in both Hunters and Jumpers as an amateur competitor.
